On networking or leadership questions: they are not asking whether you know important people. They are asking whether you build relationships on purpose and what came of it. A small example with a real outcome is better than a big name.

Be specific about what you would do with the year. Vague plans read as somebody who wants the title rather than the work.

Apply even if you think you are underqualified, as long as you meet the eligibility. The people deciding are looking for fit, not for a perfect score, and the applicant who did not apply is the only one certain not to get it.
