Summarising long reports is another. It is safer for finding which pages to read properly than for the numbers themselves. Check every figure against the document.

Translation is one use, for intake forms and messages in several languages. It can get dialects wrong in ways that matter, so a person who speaks the language still has to check anything that goes to a family.
