Question

How do you find an editor when you are too close to your own footage?

A long documentary shoot leaves a director with far more footage than film, and too close to it to cut it well. Where do independent filmmakers find an editor when the budget is small?

Try film schools. A final-year student with a good tutor may take it on, and a real credit matters to them. Agree the credit, the pay and who has the final cut in writing before any work starts.

Film schools had not occurred to me. Putting the final cut in writing first is a good point too.
