Your account

How do I join?

Tap Join. Say whether you are a person or an organisation, then give your full name, a username, your email and a password. Where you are and your causes are optional. We email you a link to confirm your address.

I did not get the confirmation email

Look in spam and promotions first. Then go to Settings, Email, and tap Send the confirmation link again. Until your email is confirmed, you cannot message people or reset a forgotten password.

I forgot my password

On the Sign in page, tap Forgotten your password? and enter your email. If it belongs to an account with a confirmed email, a link to set a new password comes by email.

How do I change my email or password?

In Settings, under Email or Password. A new password signs you out on every other phone and computer. A new email gets a confirmation link, and the old address is told it was replaced.

I am signed in on a lost phone or a shared computer

Go to Settings, Where you are signed in, and tap Sign out everywhere. It signs you out on every device at once, this one included.

How do I delete my account?

In Settings, under Delete your account. Your email, password, profile and notifications are removed and cannot be brought back. Your username stays reserved, so nobody else can take it. You choose whether your posts and answers stay up or come down too.

Posting

How do I post?

Tap Post. Write first, then choose a cause and what kind of post it is: a post, a question, a win, an opportunity, a project, what you are looking for, an event or a resource. A heading is optional; without one, your first sentence is the heading. The picture icon adds a photo.

Why is my post waiting?

Some posts are read by a moderator before they go up: your first post, posts with links while your account is new, posts with a phone number, email address or WhatsApp link, anything with a price on it, every opportunity, and photos, PDFs and videos from newer members. Your post is saved while it waits, and goes up once somebody has looked.

How do I edit or delete a post?

Open the ··· on your post or reply and choose Edit or Delete. Edits are checked the same way as new posts.

What is Podium?

Podium is for longer pieces. Go to Podium and tap Write a piece. Your draft saves itself as you type, on any device. When you publish, you choose the cause, what the card says, and whether it goes up now or later. Readers can tap Listen to hear it read aloud.

What is Insights?

How your own posts are doing: how often they were seen and opened, what people did with them, profile visits and new followers. Open Insights from the menu, or tap the chart under one of your posts. A post counts as seen when at least half of it has been on screen for most of a second. Your own views do not count.

Messages

Why can I not message someone?

To start a conversation you need a confirmed email and at least 3 posts. That stops strangers using messages to sell things. Your first message is a request: you can send one until they accept. You can start 5 new conversations a day.

Can I send files in a message?

No, on purpose. Nobody on Shamp should ask for your passport or documents in private. If someone does, report the conversation.

Circles

What is a Circle?

A group inside Shamp, around a cause, a place or a programme. Public: Anybody can find it and read its posts. Only members post, reply and react. Private: Anybody can find it and see what it is for. Only members read its posts. People ask to join or are invited. Secret: Only members know it exists. People join by invitation.

How do I start a Circle?

Go to Circles and tap Start a Circle. You need a confirmed email and an account at least a week old in good standing, and you can start one every 30 days. No approval is needed.

Events and tickets

How do I register for an event?

Open the event and tap Register. You can use your Shamp account, or just a name and an email. Your ticket comes by email with a QR code and a calendar file, and a reminder comes the day before and an hour before. Tickets are free.

Where is my ticket, and how do I cancel?

In your email, and on the Events page under Your tickets. To cancel, open your ticket and tap Cancel my place. Your seat goes to the next person waiting.

How do I host an event?

On the Events page, tap Create an event. At the door, scan each guest's QR code with your phone camera to open their ticket and check them in.

Safety

Someone asked me for money

Some things here cost money and say so. A training, an event or a programme from a partner can have a fee, and it will be on the page with a named organisation behind it before you decide anything. What is never legitimate is being asked for money in private: a fee to process an application, to secure a place, to release a grant, or any payment sent to a person instead of an organisation. Scholarships and grants do not work that way. If someone asks you for money that way, it is a scam. Report it. Report it from the ··· menu.

How do I report or block someone?

Open the ··· on the post, reply or profile and choose Report, with a reason: the Shamp team looks at every report. Block is in the same menu. See the house rules.

What do the badges mean?

A verified badge means we checked who the account belongs to. A programme badge, such as Chevening Scholar, means the Shamp team checked proof you sent; it is our check, not the programme's endorsement. Add one from your own profile, under Add a programme.

Your phone and settings

How do I get Shamp on my phone?

Get Shamp on your phone shows the steps for the phone you are using.

How do I turn notifications on or off?

In Settings, under Notifications on this device. The weekly round-up email, sent on Sunday evenings, is under Weekly email.

How do I switch to dark mode?

In Settings, under Appearance: Light, Dark, or Auto, which follows your phone.

Still stuck?
