Buying books for a reading club: look close to home first

mercy_nabwireContributor··1 view
When a small club has money for books, where it buys them matters. A publisher or bookseller in the same region can supply levelled readers without the cost and delay of shipping from abroad, and is more likely to have books in the languages the children speak. Ask for a price list before you fix a budget, and buy fewer titles in more copies so a group can read the same book together.

If a small grant pays for the books, keep the receipts and a simple count of how many children use them. The next application is easier with both.
