Unrestricted grants: what the word means and why it matters

naledi_sContributor··1 view
Some grants are unrestricted. That means the organisation decides what the money pays for, including salaries and rent. Many grants are tied to a project and limit what they will pay towards either. When you read a call, look for that word and for who may apply. Some small grants are open only to registered organisations, and the call says which languages an application can be written in.

For anyone new to this: unrestricted means you can pay a salary with it. With a project grant, check the budget rules before you assume you can.
