How do you work with people without turning them into case studies?

Funders want stories. The families an organisation works with did not sign up to be anybody's story. How do you report honestly without using people?

Show people the paragraph before it is submitted and let them change it. It slows the report down, and it is the only way to know the story is one they agree to.

Ask what they want said, not whether you may say it. Those are different questions, and only the second gets a yes out of politeness.
