Question

Grant funding or an investor for a solar business?

For a small business installing mini-grids, the choice can be a grant that covers a fixed period or an investor who wants equity and a return. The grant is easier to live with. Is it better?

Read the grant conditions properly too. Some restrict taking equity investment later, which would decide the question for you.

Ask what happens the month after the grant ends. A business built around grant cycles stops when the cycle does. If the numbers per unit work, take the money that expects them to work.

With one exception. If the model still has to be proven, grant money is patient in a way investor money is not. Grant first, investor once the numbers are real.
