QuestionHealth

Has anyone published from a masters dissertation? How did you start?

A dissertation can be publishable and still be a long way from a paper, and supervisors do not always have time to help. For somebody who has never submitted to a journal, where does the process start?

chidera_nQuestionEducationIs IELTS required for every masters scholarship? The test is expensive, and it is hard to tell when it is really required. Some universities accept a letter from your school saying you were taught in English....
wanjiru_k19 days agoOne thing to add: ask your registrar for the letter early. Official letters can take weeks to produce, and that is time you do not control.2 found this usefulView reply

wanjiru_k20 days agoA way to check for yourself: find the scholarship on the official website of the university or funder, without using any link they sent. If it is not there, it does not exist.1 found this usefulView reply

wanjiru_k20 days agoA point about essays on community work, for this or any scholarship that asks: say what changed because of what you did, not only what you did. Small numbers are fine if they are real.1 found this usefulView reply

mercy_nabwireQuestionEducationIs it worth doing a masters if I want to stay teaching?A masters can cost years of savings. For somebody who wants to stay in the classroom, does it change anything?
wanjiru_k23 days agoBe honest about what you want from it. For the classroom alone, it may not change much. For moving into curriculum or policy later, it can matter, because some of those roles ask for it.1 found this usefulView reply
chidera_nQuestionHealthHow do you handle burnout when the work never stops?Asking seriously. When the work does not stop and you are not sure you are coping, what do you do?
wanjiru_k9 Sept 2026Tell somebody in person this week. Asking here is a reasonable start, and it is not enough on its own. A supervisor, a friend, anyone who can see your face. If it is affecting your sleep or your health, see a doctor or a counsellor too.View reply
