Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program: you apply through a partner university

The Scholars Program is run through partner universities and organisations. You apply to a partner, not to the Foundation, and the partner makes the decision. The Foundation says the support includes tuition fees, accommodation, books and...

A cover letter structure for this sector

Four paragraphs. One: the specific thing of theirs you have read, and what you thought. Two: the closest thing you have done. Three: the gap, named honestly, and how you are closing it. Four: one sentence asking for the conversation....

samuel_ezeQuestionCareersEvery job wants 3 years experience. How did you get your first one?Roles advertised as entry level often ask for three years of experience. How do people get the first one?
ifeoma_a20 days agoYes. Mention something specific from their own work in the first two lines of the cover letter. It shows you chose them, not just any vacancy.View reply
chidera_nQuestionEducationIs IELTS required for every masters scholarship? The test is expensive, and it is hard to tell when it is really required. Some universities accept a letter from your school saying you were taught in English....
ifeoma_a20 days agoIt is called a Medium of Instruction letter. Some universities accept one in place of a test when your whole degree was taught in English, and some do not. The scholarship page usually does not say. The university admissions page does, under English language requirements. Check there first, for each university you are...1 found this usefulView reply
samuel_ezeQuestionYouth DevelopmentWhat should a one-hour session on CV writing cover? For a small online group of recent graduates and one hour, what belongs in a session on CV writing, and what can be left out?
ifeoma_a20 days agoThree things fit in an hour: what goes at the top, how to describe work that was unpaid or informal, and reading one real job advert together and matching a CV to it. Leave design and templates out.View reply
chidera_nPostHealthIf a thread here helped you, come back and say what happenedMany threads end with good advice and no word on whether it worked. If you asked something here and later learned how it went, say so under your own question,...

fatima_kQuestionCareersAsked to pay a fee to "process" a scholarship. Is that normal?A message that many people receive: you have been selected for a scholarship abroad, and you must pay a processing fee to secure your place before a deadline a...
ifeoma_a20 days agoNo. It is a scam. Stop replying to them. A fee to process an award, secure a slot or release a payment, asked for in a message and with a deadline, is how these work. The pressure is part of it: they want you to pay before you ask anyone. A university may charge an application fee on its own website. Nobody real asks...1 found this usefulView reply
mercy_nabwireQuestionEducationWhere do reading clubs find books at the right level?A weekend reading club for children who are behind in reading needs books at their level. Donated books are often too hard, and a book that is too hard makes a...
ifeoma_a21 days agoSmall community grants are worth a look for a book budget. Read who the funder says it funds before anything else: some only fund registered organisations.View reply
mercy_nabwireQuestionEducationIs it worth doing a masters if I want to stay teaching?A masters can cost years of savings. For somebody who wants to stay in the classroom, does it change anything?
ifeoma_a23 days agoLook for funded places before you decide. Paying from savings and studying on a scholarship are very different decisions.1 found this usefulView reply
chidera_nQuestionCareersShould I put my unfinished degree on my CV?With a degree nearly finished, some say leave it off until it is done and some say list it as expected. Which is right?
ifeoma_a28 days agoList it with the expected completion date. Leaving it off looks like a gap, and a gap raises more questions than an honest date does.1 found this usefulView reply

ifeoma_a8 Sept 2026It can cut either way. In some places the explicit label is what makes people feel the programme is for them. It depends where you are.1 found this usefulView reply

ifeoma_a5 Sept 2026They can already see the gap on your CV. Naming it first means you get to frame it, and it reads as self-awareness instead of something you hoped nobody would notice.1 found this usefulView reply
